The discipline
Functional Medicine
What it is far less equipped to do is answer the question that matters most to most people: why is this happening to me?
Why does the fatigue persist despite normal blood results? Why does the inflammation return despite the medication? Why does the weight not shift despite the effort? Why does the gut dysfunction, the hormonal disruption, the mood disorder, the cognitive decline — why does it continue?
Functional medicine exists to answer those questions.
It is not an alternative to conventional medicine. It is its most intelligent complement — bringing a root-cause, systems-biology orientation to the clinical questions that conventional medicine's disease-focused model was not designed to address.
What it is
Functional medicine is a clinical discipline that treats the body as an interconnected biological system and investigates the root causes of disease and dysfunction rather than managing their end-point symptoms.
Practised by clinicians trained in both conventional medicine and the functional medicine methodology, it applies the same rigorous scientific evidence base as conventional practice — through a different lens. Rather than asking "which drug suppresses this symptom?", it asks "which biological dysfunction is generating this symptom, and what does that dysfunction require to resolve?"
The tools are advanced laboratory investigation, detailed clinical history, lifestyle and environmental assessment, and a therapeutic approach that integrates nutritional medicine, targeted supplementation, lifestyle intervention, and — where appropriate — conventional medical management.
Our approach
At our clinic, functional medicine is the clinical intelligence that directs everything else we offer.
When a client presents with chronic fatigue, we do not manage the fatigue. We investigate the mitochondrial function, the thyroid cascade, the adrenal pattern, the nutrient status, the gut microbiome, the inflammatory load, and the hormonal picture — and we treat what we find.
When the investigation reveals a heavy metal burden, we use Oligoscan to quantify it and IV therapy and detoxification protocols to address it. When the microbiome is dysbiotic, we use the gut test to map it, colon hydrotherapy to clear it, and a targeted probiotic and dietary protocol to restore it. When the cellular energy system is depleted, we support it with red light therapy, PEMF, HBOT, and the IV nutrients the mitochondria need to recover.
Every therapy and test at our clinic is most powerful when it is directed by a clinical mind that understands why it is being used, for whom, and in what sequence.

Who it is for
Functional medicine is for anyone whose health questions have remained unanswered — and whose body deserves a more complete clinical conversation. It is most directly relevant to:
-
01
People with chronic conditions — fatigue, autoimmunity, hormonal disorders, gut dysfunction, metabolic disease — who want root-cause resolution, not indefinite symptom management
-
02
Those who have been told their results are "normal" but continue to feel far from it
-
03
People managing multiple conditions or multiple medications who want a more integrated clinical perspective
-
04
Anyone entering a significant health transition — menopause, post-viral recovery, post-surgical rehabilitation
-
05
High-performers seeking to optimise every biological dimension of their function
-
06
Anyone who wants a healthcare relationship built on depth, on precision, and on genuine investment in long-term biological health
Is functional medicine evidence-based?
Yes. Functional medicine draws on the same body of peer-reviewed biomedical research as conventional medicine — applied through a systems-biology lens that investigates root causes rather than managing end-point symptoms. The laboratory tools, nutritional interventions, and therapeutic approaches are all scientifically supported.
Can I continue seeing my GP or specialist?
Absolutely — and we encourage it. Functional medicine is most powerfully positioned as a complement to conventional care. We work alongside your existing medical team, providing the root-cause clinical layer that conventional medicine may not offer, while ensuring that any interventions we recommend are safe and appropriate in the context of your existing care.
How is this different from a functional assessment?
A functional assessment is a specific clinical evaluation — a structured process of investigation and planning. Functional medicine is the broader clinical discipline and philosophy within which that assessment sits. Functional medicine is the ongoing practice; a functional assessment is often the starting point of that practice.
How long does it take to see results?
This depends significantly on the complexity of your health picture and the root causes being addressed. Some clients notice meaningful improvements within weeks of implementing targeted interventions. For longstanding, multi-system conditions, meaningful resolution may take 3 to 6 months or more. Functional medicine is a commitment to lasting change — and the changes it produces tend to be durable, because they address the biology, not just the symptoms.
